Prosegue la kermesse dell'Ultratrail du Mont Blanc. Nella sua seconda edizione, la gara Orsières-Champex-Chamonix (OCC sulla distanza di 53 km e 3300 m D+ in semi-autonomia, con un tempo massimo a disposizione di 14 ore) che ha visto alla partenza da Orsières, giovedì 27 agosto 2015 1200 atleti ha trionfato il catalano Marc Pinsach Rubirola che, durante i 53 km e 3 300 m D+, ha giocato al gatto e al topo con Sylvain Court.

3° nel 2014, lo sciatore alpinista ha vinto in 5:21:38, arrivando 1:45 prima del campione del mondo di trail 2015, Sylvain Court. «Quest'anno, sono partito con prudenza per avere più energia per la fine della gara » racconta il giovane atleta di 26 anni, originario di Cassa de la Selva (Costa Brava). «Ho constatato che Sylvain era più a suo agio sulle parti piane, mentre io andavo meglio in salita».
I due uomini sono rimasti insieme fino a Trient (km 24). Nella lunga salita verso Catogne, Pinsach aumenta il ritmo e stacca Sylvain Court, sempre allerta: «Non ero tranquillo nell'ultima discesa, conoscendo le qualità di Sylvain in materia. Ma mi sono detto che 5 minuti sarebbero bastati se fossi riuscito a controllare un pò meglio la mia corsa». Finalmente, Marc Pinsach taglia il traguardo con 2 minuti di vantaggio, vincendo quest'edizione, dopo una vittoria all'Ultra Trail Andorra 2015. «Vincere qui è il massimo. Si approfitta della mediatizzatione dell'evento. Questo va oltre l'ambito del trail. È un pò come se fosse una vittoria ad una tappa del Tour de France per un ciclista», dice l'atleta del team Dynafit.

Il campione del mondo Sylvain Court è stato molto soddisfatto del secondo posto. «Oggi lo scopo era di impregnarmi dell'atmosfera di questo evento, di scoprire un percorso in montagna, di misurarmi ad un gruppo di campioni. Ho avuto "un colpo di caldo" a La Flégère e non ho potuto riprendere Marc Pinsach, che era troppo in forma oggi », continua Sylvain, che è venuto a Chamonix per la prima volta. «È stato un modo per conoscere il luogo, perchè conto tornare a Chamonix in futuro. Lo ammetto, l'UTMB® mi fa sognare... » conclude Sylvain Court.

Con un finish epico e serratissimo, Germain Grangier arriva sull'ultimo gradino del podio, resistendo ai minacciosi Romuald De Paepe (4°) e Roberto Sancho (5°). Ueli Steck, l'alpinista svizzero che ha scalato le 82 vette oltre i 4 000 m delle Alpi in 62 giorni, arriva al 22° posto.

Per le donne, la gara è stata ancora più combattuta: Celia Chiron arriva prima in 6:41:53, davanti a Cécile Lefebvre (6:42:19) e Caroline Benoît (6:42:43).

A fine giornata, alcuni dei 144 concorrenti Elite iscritti all'UTMB® e alla CCC® sono stati presentati alla stampa. Domani si affronteranno su questi due percorsi con condizioni meteo particolarmente clementi e calde.

OCC - Pinsach edges out Court

For the second edition of the Orsières-Champex-Chamonix ultra, Catalonian Marc Pinsach Rubirola triumphed, playing a game of cat and mouse with Sylvain Court over the race's entire 53 km and 3300 m vertical gain.

Placing third in the 2014 edition, the Catalonian ski-mountaineer won the race with a time of 05:21:38, just 1 minute 45 seconds ahead of the 2015 World Trail Running Champion, Sylvain Court. "This time around, I started cautiously to conserve energy for the end of the race," explains the young 26-year old from Cassa de la Selva (Costa Brava). "I could see that Sylvain was much more comfortable than me on the flatter sections, but that I was climbing perhaps a bit better than he was." The two men stayed together until Trient (km 24). During the long ascent to Catogne, Pinsach increased the pace to break away from Sylvain Court, who appeared to be lying in wait for one last chance to ambush the leader. "I was still a bit worried during the final descent, knowing how strong Sylvain is at running downhill. But I felt that a 5-minute lead would be enough if I continued to maintain control of the race." At the finish line, Marc Pinsach held on to a 2-minute lead for the win, and this following a first place performance for the marathon at this year's Andorra Ultra Trail. "Winning here is head and shoulders above the rest simply due to the media coverage of the event. This extends far beyond the world of trail running. It's a bit like winning a stage in the Tour de France for a cyclist," explains the athlete from Team Dynafit.

World Champion Sylvain Court appeared satisfied with second place. "The goal today was to immerse myself in the event's incredible atmosphere, to discover a new mountain race course, and to measure my ability within a packed lead group. I overheated a bit at La Flégère, and was unable to catch up to Marc Pinsach, who ran a very strong race today," explains the runner from Bordeaux, who made his first appearance in Chamonix this year. "This was a way for me to get a feel for the area, since I plan to come back to Chamonix in the future. I admit that I'd really like to run in the UTMB..." concludes Sylvain Court.

In an epic and extremely close finish, Germain Graingier grabbed last spot on the podium, staving off Romuald De Paepe (4th) and Roberto Sancho (5th) just seconds behind. Another noteworthy finish was Ueli Steck's in 22nd place; the world-class alpinist recently succeeded in summiting the Alp's 82 official 4000 meter peaks in just 62 days.

For the women, the race was even closer, with just 50 seconds separating the top 3 runners. Celia Chiron won with atime of 06:41:53, ahead of Cécile Lefebvre (06:42:19), and Caroline Benoît (06:42:43).

At the end of the day, some of the 144 Elite runners registered for the UTMB® and the CCC® were presented to the media. On Friday, they will compete against each in the two races. The forecast calls for sunny skies and warm temps.

Gli altri favoriti sono lo spagnolo Marc Pinsach Rubirola, i francesi Bertrand Brochot e Stéphane Ricarde l'italiano Matteo Lucchese. L'alpinista svizzero Ueli Steck, che ha appena battuto il record, scalando le 82 vette sopra i 4 000 m delle Alpi in 62 giorni, sarà anche lui alla partenza. 9° all'Eiger Ultra-Trail® 2014, bisognerà stargli dietro !...
