From 29 to 31 May 2015, the 5th edition of the Tecnica-Maxi-Race will join together around Lake Annecy, 6000 runners!
Among them, the elite of the discipline, as the 86 km (5300m D+) is the supporting race IAU Trail World Championships in 2015.
Created in 2011, the Tecnica-MaXi-Race has established itself, through four editions, as one of the major events on the off-road-running race calendar. With 7 different race formats, 1300 runners in 2011, 2800 in 2012, 4500 in 2013, and 5300 in 2014, more than 6000 runners are expected in 2015, including the best trail runners in the world!
The Tecnica-MaXi-Race, with the start and finish lines in the city of Annecy-le-Vieux (Haute Savoie - France), has progressed from a local, to a national, to an internationally renowned event. For this worldwide recognition, it has been selected as the Site for the 2015 IAU Trail World Championships, which will take place on May 30, 2015, during a full weekend of off-road-running races.
2015 IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners) Trail World Championships. The flagship course of the Tecnica-MaXi-Race - 86km, 5300m vertical gain - circumnavigates Lake Annecy via the surrounding summits. An extremely technical and physically demanding ultramarathon, providing extraordinary panoramic views of the lake, this will be THE RACE COURSE for the men's and women's titles during the 2015 IAU Trail World Championships.
The Trail World Championships are being jointly organized by the French Athletics Federation (FFA) and the Tecnica-MaXi-Race team. As with all championships organized within the framework of an Olympic Federation, competing runners will be selected by their corresponding national federation. The IAU/IAAF-Athletics member federations represent 78 nationalities whose runners will wear the official jerseys from their country to contend for the only Trail World Champion title recognized worldwide by the Olympic Movement. Federations will start registering their runners as early as November 15, 2014.
Success: the result of a long-term partnership, an exceptional natural setting, and a friendly atmosphere
The Tecnica-MaXi-Race's success derives from several key factors:
- Collaboration with the event's two longtime partners, Tecnica and the city of Annecy-le-Vieux
- Lake Annecy's exceptional natural setting offers a true mountain-running course that links sections of technical and rolling terrain, single-track trails, forests and alpine pastures; combining technique with sheer enjoyment. Lake Annecy is one of the major hotbeds for most outdoor sports, providing constant views of the lake, and often views of the Mont-Blanc range.
- A Warm relaxed, and friendly atmosphere for everyone!
Question for Stéphane Agnoli, organizer and Race Director
The Tecnica-Maxi-Race will host the 2015 IAU Trail World Championships on the 86km course; this is great recognition, isn't it?
"The international bodies asked us to submit a bid together with the FFA. This is indeed great recognition and highly satisfying to be able combine an event open to the general public with the World Championships.
The high-quality race course (amazing and technical), our good-natured volunteers (even when enforcing the rules), the first-rate aid stations, and the involvement of our partners and members - all trail runners - of our association, clearly played in our favor for the bid. The international bodies want to move trail running's recognition worldwide to the next level in and sought to work with an organization known for its professionalism and whose priority is to ensure both runner safety and satisfaction."
Question for André Giraud, vice president, French Athletics Federation (FFA):
These Trail World Championships will be the second organized in France, following Serre Chevalier in 2009. What is noteworthy about this challenge?
"Trail running, like all 'non-stadium' disciplines, is constantly evolving in France, both in terms of the sport and its participants. Organizing these World Championships is an important milestone that will allow us to show just how dynamic the FFA and its partners are, whether public or private.
It also provides the sport with nationwide recognition. For several years now the French national team has stood on the podium on a regular basis, whether as individuals or as a team.
In addition, this is the opportunity to shine the spotlight on world-class race organizers in France, such as the Tecnica-Maxi-Race, an event where the number of runners continues to significantly increase year after year."
A weekend-long event for everyone organized "by runners, for runners"
Faithful to its founding motto, "For runners, by runners," the Tecnica-MaXi-Race remains a 7-race adventure open to everyone. From May 29-31, 2015, more than 6000 runners of all levels are expected to participate in one of the 7 race formats around the lake.
- The Tecnica-MaXi-Race - 86km solo run, 5300 m vertical gain open to the general public, and the race course for the World Championships. The regular start will be at a different time than the 2015 IAU Trail World Championships.
- The Compressport-XL Race - 86 km, 5300 m vertical gain over 2 days:
Day 1: 44.5km, 2550m V+, 2527m V
