IAU 24H World and European Championships Turin, Italy 6H update.
Welcome back from our first update this morning or it this is your first visit, welcome to the IAU 24 Hour World Championship updates. Turin was the site of the 2006 Winter Olympics and there is much that remains from that decade ago. Beautiful mountains in the northern regions and impressive sport venues in Turin proper. There is significant emphasis on sport and Turin has been designated the European City of Sport for 2015. The various organizations in Turin really know how to put together high quality events. FIDEL and CUS Torino are doing an amazing job providing organization and personnel to make sure this race is the very best it can be. The IAU is grateful to them for their persevering efforts.
We are now 6 hours into the run and the runners are feeling the heat of the day. Temperatures are 18 C (64 F) under sunny skies. Runners know they need to make it through to 6 pm when the temperatures will begin to drop anticipating night time temps back down to 9 C (49F). The 2 Km race course is mostly shaded with the exception of the 400 meter oval inside the stadium.
Crowd enthusiasm was very vocal this morning, but they too, are getting tired. It will be important to remain mentally strong as well as to run smart. We are only one quarter through the race. So much to go... every step in front of the other and remain upright!
