Nell'ultima newsletter pervenuta dalla IAU viene annunciata l'elezione dell'Atleta dell'anno (scelto, ovviamente, tra gli ultrarunner del mondo che maggiormente si sono distinti nei Maggiori eventi di ultramaratona promossi dalla IAU nel corso del 2011).

Tra i 20 atleti che hanno ricevuto automaticamente la nomination figurano anche gli italiani Giorgio Calcaterra e Cecilia Mora.

Sono stati infatti nominati automaticamente tutti gli atleti saliti sul podio degli eventi internazionali del 2011 (Campionato del Mondo di 100 km, Campionato del Mondo di UltraTrail e Trofeo IAU di 50 km) e coloro che hanno conseguito migliori prestazioni o record assoluti mondiali.

Altri potranno essere nominati: pertanto tutti sono invitati a votare i nostri azzurri e a presentare altri nostri atleti, andando nell'apposito link segnalato.

Subject: Athletes of the Year Nomination and Voting Process
Dear Friends,
Hope all of you are doing well.
We are at the end of another outstanding international season. We have had several amazing events and athletes have performed to their full potential.
We started the season with the World Trail Championships in Connemara. We introduced the team events for the first time at these championships.
This was followed by the 50km World Trophy Final in Assen. Some very fast times on a very fast 50km course were achieved on the day.
The 100km World and European Championships took place in Winschoten in September. The men´s and women´s times were outstanding and there were some very close races in both fields.
IAU supported the recently held Commonwealth Mountain and Ultradistance running championships. Several amazing runs over a three day event over three different distances.
Please note the new Athlete of the Year Award rules and regulations are attached above. This was presented after the Technical Meeting in Winschoten to the federations.
Nominations are now open. Also, please find a list of automatic nominated athletes attached. You can nominate athletes outside of this list by going to our website.
Currently, we are at nine (9) men and eleven (11) women on the list.

When nominating, please add a short note under comments on some of the athlete's performances. Nominations close on Nov. 20th 2011.
