Turin Marathon comunica che il 14 novembre 2012 si sono chiuse le iscrizioni dei top runner.
Conferma che, come detto il giorno prima (il 13 novembre) in conferenza stampa presso il Consiglio Regionale del Piemonte, si era in attesa di verificare se gli atleti che aspettavano il visto sarebbero potuti partire.
Il 14 novembre è stato possibile confermare che Sharon Jemutai Cherop, vincitrice della maratona di Boston di aprile 2012, sarà presente alla Turin Marathon - Gran Premio La Stampa 2012.
Questa atleta chiude di fatto l'elenco femminile d’élite che consentirà di realizzare un evento che potrebbe essere, per quanto riguarda le donne, di straordinaria importanza.
Si ripete a Torino, ancora una volta, lo scontro Italia-Kenya con presenze italiane autorevoli come quelle di Valeria Straneo e Emma Quaglia che possono competere senza timore per la vittoria di questa Gold Marathon che andrà in scena il prossimo 18 novembre 2012.
Sharon Jemutai Cherop (born 16 March 1984) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. She won a bronze medal at the age of sixteen in the 5000 metres at the World Junior Championships. She made her international breakthrough some years later in road running competitions, winning the 2007 News and Sentinel Half Marathon and coming third on her marathon debut at the Twin Cities Marathon. Her first major marathon wins came in 2010, first at the Hamburg Marathon and then at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, which she won in 2:22:42 to set a personal best and the fastest marathon time on Canadian soil.
One of Cherop's first major competitions was the 1999 All-Africa Games but she did not make the podium. She was the bronze medallist over 5000 metres at the 2000 World Junior Championships in Athletics, finishing behind Dorcus Inzikuru and Meseret Defar. At the Discovery Kenya Great Rift Cross Country in January 2002 she took third place in the senior race behind race winner Joan Jepkorir Aiyabei.
